The 2013 edition of the Vulcan Run is fast approaching! This is the 36th running of this Birmingham classic 10K race sponsored by the BIRMINGHAM TRACK CLUB. The Vulcan Run is the 2013 Alabama RRCA 10K State Championship and the Birmingham Track Club is very excited to have received this designation. This year's race will be held 8:00 A.M. on Saturday, November 2nd.
The first event, called the Bicentennial Run, was organized by Versal Spaulding on November 27, 1975 has now grown into one the South's premiere 10K road races.
Again this year we are offering a $5,000 purse as well as bonus incentives of $500.00 for the fastest male or female who breaks the course record (Male - Marcos Baretto, 1984: 28:18 and Female Christine Pfitzinger 1990: 32:330). In the event the course record is not broken we will offer $250.00 to the fastest male under 29:00 and the fastest female under 33:00. These prizes are not cumulative and the decision of the Race Director is final.
Whether your goal is prize money or finishing strong, stay around for the post race party with music and food inside Boutwell or jog the Free for All Fun Run at 9:30 to cool down. We look forward to having you.
